Do I have to do the training weekend?
No, some people only want to get involved in the publicity side including writing factsheets, updating the website etc and if you just want to do this you don't have to do the training weekend. However, if you want to get involved in running the drop-in or doing outreach etc then you will have to do the weekend.
Can I volunteer all year round?
Yes you can. We run two training weekends a year and therefore you should be able to do one fairly soon after joining Unisex. In the meantime you can still get involved in activites organised by Unisex, although you will not be able to do things like running drop-in until you have had the training.
What can I gain from volunteering with Unisex?
Volunteering with any organisation looks great on a C.V and the skills you learn are invaluable. It can also give you a great sense of satisfaction. Unisex is a great organisation to get involved in because it's unique and so it really stands out. You get to learn loads about sex and drugs and meet great people! There are also loads of different activities to get involved in so you won't get bored!
Is there a minimum time committment?
Whilst we do realise that uni work has to come first and is the most important thing, we do ask that volunteers commit to doing a minimum of 3 drop-in and/or outreach sessions per term as well as attending meetings and training as required. However, we are open to negotiation so please feel free to come and chat to us about this if you have any concerns.
We have lots of different activites which happpen at different times during the term and it's completely up to you what you get involved in. Even if you have a full timetable during the day you can still get involved as we run outreach, pub quizzes etc in the evenings.
