How to Apply
UNISEX recruits volunteers twice a year, in October and in
January. We accept 12-16 volunteers in each intake.
Application Process
Step 1 - Recruitment Session
Attending a recruitment session gives you a chance to find
out more about being a volunteer. The session will consist
of an informal exercise to give you a chance to demonstrate
your skills, and time for chatting with staff and existing
volunteers.
We are looking for creative team players with good communication
skills. Places are limited and are allocated on a first come,
first serve basis. You need to attend the whole session.
Step 2 - Application Form
At the recruitment session we will distribute application
forms. If you are still keen to volunteer you will need to
submit your application form by the deadline stated. Successful
applicants will be invited to attend training.
N.B You are welcome to submit an application if you are unable
to attend a recruitment session. However, priority will be
given to those who have attended a session.
Who can Apply?
Anyone who is a student or a member of staff at the University
of Sussex or the University of Brighton can apply to become
a UNISEX volunteer.
Full training is provided, so you don’t need to have
any experience or previous knowledge about sexual health,
drugs or alcohol. However, you do need to be open-minded,
non-judgemental and have a good understanding of the student
lifestyle.
Competition for places is tough, so think about your application
carefully. We don’t stipulate a minimum time commitment
to be a volunteer, however, we are searching for individuals
who will be motivated, enthusiastic and committed to the work
we do.
UNISEX strives for diversity within our volunteer team, in
order that we succeed in effectively representing the university
communities we aim to serve.
The next recruitment process will begin in January
2009. Please check these pages then for more details.
If you require any further information regarding volunteering
or the application process, please do not hesitate to get
in touch.
